If enough of us wrote letters to him about this specific case he might investigate it and showcase it. He is one of, if not the most, watched cable news show on TV.
Also, as far as petitions go, I only thought of it because so many of them come across my fb for different abused children cases. I've written letters to parole boards to try to keep abusers in jail, etc. We could have it sent to the whitehouse. It's my understanding if enough people sign it, they have to take it seriously. Alas, I don't think a petition would accomplish anything.

The state that is giving "Eve" such a bad time has, in recent years, experienced dozens of deaths of children while in care. Investigations by government panels and press have accomplished no significant changes. An office of Children's Ombudsman was established, but it unfortunately has ties to DHS; the first person to hold this position resigned in frustration of not having a free hand to investigate complaints. ("Eve" twice wrote the ombudsman and received not even an acknowledgement of her complaints.) Activists have approached state DHS personnel about various counties' involvement in Attachment Therapy but were blown off.

We have to assume that the injustice befallen "Eve" is typical of a rotten system involving all levels of authority, from social workers to judges – a system that excels at self-protection, arrogance, and entrenched ignorance.

Essentially, there are no effective outside checks on the power of state and county DHS. And these entities can be counted on the fight tooth and nail to prevent the creation of any effective oversight.

I am at a loss about what can be done to clean up the system. The system is shrouded in secrecy. About every ten years there is a public outcry about the abuses, with legislators expressing concern, but then the issue dies away.

My heart goes out to "Eve" and her children. I hope her children will know one day that she has done everything in her power to save them from the abuses of the system.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743746633913926150.post-46942938211769306042013-07-23T14:08:35.207-04:002013-07-23T14:08:35.207-04:00Ginger, this is such a good idea about a petition,...Ginger, this is such a good idea about a petition, I can't believe we didn't think of it before. I understand government employees being difficult to sue. I was run off the road by a cop once and I had to go after my own insurance for damages because he was covered by a special law even though his own superior said he did something wrong/illegal. But it just seems so hard to believe that NO ONE can do anything to really help. Can't she sue the "therapist?" Is there some petition somewhere that we can sign to help? Something?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13004622498575966433noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743746633913926150.post-90250204074900096822013-07-22T10:35:23.122-04:002013-07-22T10:35:23.122-04:00The very questions I've asked myself! She has tried journalists, who are not interested, and I believe her on this because I have tried very hard to get journalists interested in similar situations without any success. As for the lawyers, a huge and complicated case like this would cost a lot of money to mount, and I admit that it's one thing to do work pro bono and another to pay out of your own pocket for documents, expert witnesses, the whole thing. She was hoping that if she had spent so much money, she could sue to get it back and the lawyer could take a contingency fee, but if the county and employees are iron-clad, this is not going to happen.

I am just now writing about a somewhat similar case in Canada, so keep an eye out here. Even worse, in Canada someone is proposing that therapists take over the job of dealing with parenting plans in divorce, with court experts not subject to discipline no matter what results from their recommendations.Jean Mercerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14619393019771381980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2743746633913926150.post-75597241107878725262013-07-22T10:24:20.327-04:002013-07-22T10:24:20.327-04:00I can't imagine how something like this can ha...I can't imagine how something like this can happen in this country. How is it that no one can help this woman? Where's the media? The up and coming lawyers that will work pro-bono if for no other reason than to make a name for themselves? How is this possible?
